TODAY, WHILE READING A NEWSPAPERS, I MEET A NEW WORD THAT IS NOT VERY FAMILIAR TO ME. A WORD THAT IS SELDOM USED BUT VERY POWERFUL TO DESCRIBE SOMEONE WITH RESPECT TO HIS OR HER PERSONALITY.
TWO SEASONED AND BRILLIANT FILIPINO SENATORS ARE ODDS WITH EACH OTHER AT THE START OF 2013, SENATE PRESIDENT JUAN PONCE ENRILE AND MIRIAN DEFENSOR SANTIAGO, AN UPCOMING JUDGE OF THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT.
THE WORD WAR BETWEEN THESE TWO STARTED OVER THE SO-CALLED PURPORTED "CHRISTMAS BONUS" ON HIS PART, ACCORDING TO SENATE PRESIDENT ENRILE, HE WAS MALIGNED BY HIS ENEMIES AND CRITICS AND PORTRAY HIM AS A "LIAR" AND "TRAITOR" AND CAST THE SENATE "UNDER THE CLOUD OF SUSPICION AS A HOUSE OF THIEVES."
IN HIS FIGHTING FORM, ENRILE SAID, "HE IS TOO OLD TO BE THREATENED BY ANYONE, LEAST OF ALL COWARDS AND HYPOCRITES." HE EVEN CALLED SENATOR MIRRIAM DEFENSOR SANTIAGO HIS "MOST CANTANKEROUS CRITIC."
CANTANKEROUS - ILL-TEMPERED, QUARRELSOME AND MOST DIFFICULT TO HANDLE CRITICS.
ENRILE STEP DOWN AND DECLARED HIS POST VACANT BUT MAJORITY OF HIS COLLEAGUES REJECT HIS QUIT BID AND RETAIN HIS POST AS SENATE PRESIDENT AND THE NUMBER THREE (3) MOST POWERFUL OFFICIAL OF THE LAND.
