I HEARD ABOUT PET CEMETERY, BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HEARD ABOUT FISH CEMETERY FOUND IN THE 1,300 SQUARE METER GRAVE SITE INSIDE THE BUREAU OF FISHERIES AND AQUATIC RESOURCES (BFAR) IN DAGUPAN CITY PHILIPPINES.
THE SAID FISH CEMETERY IS 12 YEARS OLD NOW. BUT AS I SAID, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I KNOW ABOUT IT. ACCORDING TO MR. ROSARIO, CHIEF OF THE AGENCY, THE FISH CEMETERY BECOME THE FIELD SCHOOL ALL YEAR ROUND EVEN TO CURIOUS PEOPLE.
WHAT IS GOOD ABOUT IT? THE GOOD ABOUT IT IS THAT IT HELPS CREATING AWARENESS ABOUT PROTECTING SEA CREATURES ESPECIALLY THE ENDANGERED ONE.
THE FISHERMEN AND THE RESIDENTS OF THE COASTAL COMMUNITIES SEE THE IMPORTANCE AND THE NEED TO CARE FOR THE STRANDED SEA CREATURES.
NOW ACCORDING TO BFAR, EVERY TIME THERE ARE GIANT FISH SPECIES SEEN IN THE LINGAYEN GULF OR OTHERS AREAS THEY CALLED THE AGENCY FOR POSSIBLE RESCUE OR REQUEST TO BURY THE DEAD CREATURES.
THEY ALSO DESERVED A VISIT, A FLOWER AND A CANDLE PERHAPS, WHEN PEOPLE REMEMBER THEIR LOVED ONES DURING ALL SOUL’S DAY, MR. ROSARIO SAID.
THE CEMETERY NOW HAS A GAZEBO WHERE PHOTOGRAPHS AND INFORMATION ABOUT THE OCCUPANTS ARE POSTED FOR
SURELY IF TIME PERMITS AND MY RESOURCES ALLOWS ME, I WILL VISIT THIS WONDERFUL PLACE.
