When I do something or say something I always think of how other people will say or react to it. Maybe I am afraid of what people may say about me. Yes, I pay much attention to what they say. This is the reason why I can't do something that I really want to do. There are times that I feel bolder do and say some stupid things but you can count it in your fingers. I was so afraid to hurt other feelings and emotions. As much as possible I remain calm and diplomatic. Some observation from my experience is that other people don't care what they do or say and I found myself victim of their harsh words and nonconstructive criticism. I believe you experienced this too.
